Background: It was August 2023, when Henry and I were going through one of the hardest times of our married life. I wrote this piece during that time.

Background: It was August 2023, when Henry and I were going through one of the hardest times of our married life. I wrote this piece during that time. He went to Nigeria in September 2023, and only came back in mid-November - I missed him so, so much. This poem is for him.

The Tapestry of Our Choices

I chose you
I chose to love you
I chose to tie the knot with you
Thusly, I choose this beautifully messy life with you.

You chose me
You chose to love me
You chose to be wedded to me
Thusly, you choose to face the trials with me.

We will endure together
This amalgamation of chaos.

Despite the darkness of the tunnel through which we are crawling,
We fight as a team.

You and I, we did not choose the hardships.
But we chose this united life,
And in each other’s embrace, we shall thrive.
