Obstacles in Love
Background: There was a boy, there was a girl. They weren’t supposed to fall in love, but it happened anyway. A personal story.
Obstacles in Love
We were not supposed to fall in love. There were insurmountable obstacles. But that is the thing about love - it sometimes happens when it is not supposed to, and always when it is least expected.
Loving you was the easiest thing to do. We did not consciously think about the obstacles; neither did we try to overcome them. It would have been impossible. Therein lies the reason behind the ease in our connection. Our love for one another was rooted in innocence, laughter, long walks, fried chicken, and dancing hand-in-hand to sappy love songs.
Letting you go was the second easiest thing to do. The erstwhile obstacles made it so. Watching you marry someone else gave me such joy (and pain) because you were happy. Our friendship is now rooted in mutual respect, sweet memories, and strength.
You will never be mine, and despite the tears, that is okay. But know this, my dear - forevermore there is a corner in my heart where you sit, quietly, with a shy smile hidden behind braces and a notebook and pen in your hand. And that corner is perennially yours.
