Background: Mariani, who once saw herself as a "bad mother," shared her emotional journey during a book writing workshop, reflecting on her past mistakes and ongoing growth. Her future book is not a confession, but a heartfelt letter to her three children, expressing her unwavering love.
Moved by her vulnerability, I was inspired to write a poem for her—a piece that touched her deeply, bringing tears of comfort. As an early Mother’s Day tribute, it celebrates her strength and devotion, weaving in her love for the sky and sea, symbolic of her dreams.
Dear Mariani
Her face reflects the cerulean sky
as she lays on a gentle boat
embraced by golden sunlight;
the guilt weighs this mama down
anchor around her besieged heart
but she refuses to drown.
As the sun sets in the far horizon
she gathers up pearls of courage
to make her story and lessons known;
but most of all, her truest desire
is to reveal how deep, wide and high
her love stretched for her sons and daughter.
Mariani, a bad mother you are not
for you have given the best you’ve got.
